An app can't connect

A Jellyfin app won't sign in to your address.

If the address opens in a browser but an app won't connect, the cause is almost always how the address was entered.

Enter the full address

  • Include https://: https://cozy-premiere.watch.coursier.io. Some apps try http:// when it's left out, which doesn't work.
  • Don't add a port such as :8096 or :8920. Those are for home only.
  • Check the spelling. Copy the address from your account or the plugin's page and send it to your phone rather than typing it.

Don't rely on automatic discovery

Apps look for servers on the local network, and won't find your Coursier address there. Choose Add server or Enter address manually instead.

The address changed

If the address was changed in your account, the old one no longer works. Edit the server in the app, or remove it and add the new address. See Change your address.

Sign-in fails

  • Check that the user is allowed to connect from outside: Dashboard → Users → the user → Allow remote connections to this server.
  • Check that Jellyfin allows remote connections at all: Dashboard → Networking → Allow remote connections to this server.
  • If you use Jellyfin's remote IP address filter, check that it allows the viewer's network.
  • Too many failed tries pause sign-in for 15 minutes. See Playback problems.

Smart TVs and older devices

  • Update the TV's or device's software and the Jellyfin app: very old devices may not support current HTTPS certificates.
  • Check the device's date and time. A wrong clock breaks HTTPS.

Still not working?

Open the address in the device's browser, or on a phone using the same network. If it shows the offline page, see "Server offline" page. If it opens, the problem is the app's settings: remove the server from the app and add it again.
