Help · Getting started

Set up in 5 minutes

Create your account, install the plugin and connect your server.

You need a Jellyfin server you run yourself, version 12 or later, and an administrator account on it.

1. Create your account and choose a plan

Open your Coursier account, sign in, and choose a plan. Registration is enabled once a plan is active.

2. Add the plugin repository in Jellyfin

  1. In Jellyfin, open Dashboard → Plugins → Repositories (on some versions: Catalog → ⚙ → Repositories).
  2. Add a repository named Coursier with this URL:
    https://connect.coursier.io/plugin/manifest.json
  3. Save.

4. Register your server and get an activation code

  1. In your account, select Register server and get activation code.
  2. Copy the 16-character activation code. It works for 10 minutes and is shown once. If it expires, select Generate new activation code on the server's card.

6. Check two Jellyfin settings

Coursier never changes your Jellyfin settings. In Jellyfin, open Dashboard → Networking and check:

SettingWhy
Allow remote connections to this server is onWhen it is off, Jellyfin refuses everyone arriving through Coursier.
Known proxies lists 127.0.0.1 and ::1Coursier passes each viewer's real address to Jellyfin from this machine. Without these two entries every viewer looks like someone on your home network, so your remote-access settings and remote bitrate limits would not apply to them. The red Add known proxies button on the plugin page adds them for you and turns green with a checkmark; you can also add them here by hand. Restart Jellyfin after changing this list: it is read when Jellyfin starts.

7. Turn on remote access

On the same page, switch Turn on remote access on. Within a minute the status shows Remote access is on, with your server's address and a Copy button.

8. Check it works

On your phone, with Wi-Fi turned off, open your server's address and sign in with your Jellyfin account. If it works there, it works from anywhere.

Next: secure your server before you share the address, then set up your apps and share it.
